A playground

children

Accessible play

Accessible playgrounds allow for children of all abilities to play side-by-side. This teaches children empathy, something we can certainly use more of! Additionally, it allows grandparents and parents of different abilities to enjoy the park with their little loved ones. The first accessible park in the tri-county area, Tatum’s Garden was inspired by Tatum Bakker, on a family trip to Idaho. Read the full story here.

A Private Park

Tatum’s Garden is a privately-funded, community-built playground. Many people believe the City of Salinas manages the park. This is NOT the case. The park is managed by a 501(c)3 nonprofit, the Tatum’s Garden Foundation with an all volunteer board. It is families like yours who donate time and money that keep the park going! Learn more about how you can volunteer or donate.

Questions?

When does the park open? When does the park close? Is the park closed in the rain? How do I report an equipment issue at the park? Can I have my kids birthday party there? Can a nonprofit I am part of team with the Tatum’s Garden Foundation on a fundraiser? The answers to these questions, and many more, can be found on our FAQ page here, including a contact form at the bottom of the page.

10th anniversary Christmas Reopening gallery

Thank you to everyone who donated to keep Tatum’s Garden the Crown Jewel of Monterey playgrounds, and the counties only fully accessible playground! After 10 years of play, and park use much higher than we ever dreamed of, the playground was in need of a makeover and our community delivered! Here is to the next 10 years of Tatum’s Garden!

Equipment Issue?

Tatum’s Garden has gotten more use than we could have possibly imagined! While this is of course wonderful, it has led to the expected-life of equipment being less than we had estimated. If you would like to report an issue with a piece of equipment at the park, please do so here: REPORT AN ISSUE AT PARK.

Keep play
accessible!
